Student’s and RA’s roles:
Research existing handheld touchscreen devices with tactile feedback systems that generate Braille patterns.
Develop a new systems could afford access to information resources available online, coupled with convenience of location-independence.
The main challenge is generating vibrotactile feedback that mimics Braille text within a form-factor suitable for mobile/handheld use for visually impaired.
To demonstrate independent research ability throughout the entire project.
Publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings
Prepare a research thesis and cooperate with government and industry partners.
Requirements and desirable skills:
At least an upper second-class or equivalent honours BSc/BEng degree or Advanced Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network and Telecommunication, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or any related discipline.
Candidates with strong programming skills and with mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) research skills and expertise would be at an advantage.
Good written and verbal communication in English
Full or partial scholarship plus a fixed monthly allowance may be available for qualified candidates (subject to approval).
